Mia's Story
The new era of hypermodernism involves the exploitation of existing objects, platforms, and materials in the digital world and providing them new functionalities so that they stand alone from their initial intentions, bridging the gap between the physical and digital realms. The following project offers a visual representation for the audio of a story told by my four-year-old cousin, Mia, age 4. I was interested in being able to convey a surreal, yet comedic visual narrative by recording and analyzing the dialogue of a young family member (cousins, sister). Relying on personal manipulated images, mainly household objects, as primary sources, with some supplemental photographs from the website Unsplash, the animations, effects, and display are strictly done using the platform of Google Slides. Such decision was made intentionally to ensure the comedic fantasy of the subject’s story is passed onto the viewer. The speaker’s words act as both a limit and an opportunity to create surprising and interesting compositions.
